Adrien Rousseaux, a fourth-generation winemaker, has been managing the Rousseaux-Batteux estate in Verzenay since 2012. The estate covers 2.6 hectares across Verzenay, Verzy, Louvois, and Villers-Marmery, with vines averaging over 50 years old. These older vines thrive in the Grand Cru village of Verzenay, renowned for its exceptional terroir. Adrien practices sustainable viticulture, avoiding herbicides and insecticides to maintain the health of the vines and environment. Each parcel of the vineyard is vinified separately, resulting in powerful, expressive, and age-worthy wines. Minimal use of new wood, around 10%, ensures a balance of subtle sweetness and light exposure to oxygen, enhancing the natural fruit flavors. The Rousseaux family has been cultivating vines in Verzenay since the late 1800s. Adrien’s grandfather, Paul, first bottled Champagne under the family name in the early 20th century, and his father, Denis, established the Rousseaux-Batteux brand in 1976. Today, Adrien continues this legacy with a modern touch, producing high-quality Champagne that reflects the family’s heritage and the prestigious Grand Cru origins.
